"The Worthing charge" part of Worthing council tax charge to increase by 15p per week

Worthing Borough Council plans to work more closely with residents to provide the services they want and need over the next 12 months, with an increase of 15p a week in the average amount it charges to do that.
The Worthing charge - the share of council tax payable to the borough council - will cost the average household £5.15 per week over the next 12 months after the Full Council approved the budget for 2024/25 yesterday. This equates to a total Worthing charge of £267.66 for the year.

The council is committed to making Worthing even cleaner, and will use digital technology to make the cleansing and waste services it provides more efficient and effective.

It is focused on making the borough greener, with the transformation of Montague Place into a welcoming town centre green space for all its citizens and visitors, young and old, a key project.

The council will work more closely with community groups and local businesses to revitalise the town centre for residents, at major sites like Teville Gate and including events like an expanded Worthing Festival.

And it will continue to support those most in need over the next 12 months, partnering with community organisations to provide a safety net for the most vulnerable, such as through food banks and warm hubs.

Cllr Dr Beccy Cooper, the leader of Worthing Borough Council, said: “Our vision is to make Worthing the greenest, fairest coastal town in the UK, providing social housing, regeneration of our town centre and seafront, and more focused services for the most vulnerable at the heart of our work.

“We have learned a lot from our citizens as we have developed our 21st Century council for the community and will work even more closely with them to support those who need us the most.”
