Pioneering partnership to help tackle homelessness in Worthing

New supported accommodation to tackle homelessness in Worthing is on the way thanks to an innovative new partnership.

Worthing Borough Council is working with housing association Worthing Homes, homelessness charity Turning Tides and Homes England to create 21 much-needed apartments to prevent people sleeping rough.

Grants available for warm welcome spaces in Adur and Worthing this winter

Last year a host of community groups and organisations across Adur and Worthing opened their doors to help residents struggling with the cost of living crisis keep warm.

Using funding from Adur & Worthing Councils, 29 venues including community centres, schools, churches, cinemas and museums offered people the opportunity to stay warm while socialising and taking part in activities. There was even the chance to watch films for free at Connaught Cinema in Worthing as part of its warm space offering.

Councillors uphold decision to use former Worthing hotel as temporary homeless accommodation

The grounds for reaching a joint decision by Adur & Worthing Members to use a former hotel in Worthing as temporary accommodation for homeless people were considered at a meeting of the Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee (JOSC) on Tuesday (25 July).

The decision was to enter into an agreement for up to 10 years with Sussex-based SDR Group that would allow 44 local homeless single people to be housed at the Windsor House Hotel in East Worthing, if planning permission was granted.

Adur and Worthing residents raise thousands of pounds for local food banks

Food banks in Adur and Worthing have praised the community for helping to raise over £22,500 as part of a crowdfunding campaign.

The Fund our Food Banks crowdfunder was launched in December 2022 to support the 3,000 people who need help from food banks in the area every month by Adur and Worthing Food Network, Adur & Worthing Councils and Community Works, a local organisation that supports the voluntary sector.
