Stop Rosebank protest and performance

On Saturday, November 22, community groups and dozens of concerned Worthing residents held a Stop Rosebank protest and performance on the promenade at Worthing Pier.
The deputy leader of the Green Party, Rachel Millward, spoke about the dangers of the oil field, saying, “Rosebank is climate vandalism.”

Oil giant, Equinor, has submitted a new application for the Rosebank oil field. The UK government will make a new decision on whether to approve Rosebank, the biggest undeveloped oil field in the UK, by the end of Jan 2026.

Worthing Climate Action states that we are already feeling the effects of the climate crisis in Worthing and surrounding areas, with rising sea levels, increased surface flooding, heatwaves and drought and that the crisis will continue to worsen until we stop burning fossil fuels.

Developing new oil and gas fields, like Rosebank, Worthing Climate Action say, would bust UK climate goals and push us closer to more parts of our world becoming uninhabitable. Rosebank's oil and gas would produce more CO2 than the 28 poorest countries do in a year.

Worthing Climate Action want change: "Not the same rip-off energy system where oil giants walk off with massive profits while we’re left with higher bills, declining jobs and a worsening climate crisis. It’s time for a rapid and just transition to homegrown clean affordable energy, such as wind and solar power."

Worthing Climate Action continue; "Rosebank has drawn widespread public opposition; including over 1 million people, 700 scientists, 200 organisations and celebrities, trade unionists, 400 faith leaders and MPs from every political party. We want the government to say NO to Rosebank."
